We have been living here in Portland for 5+ months now. It is impressive how many unique, local, tasty restaurants call Portland home. There is something special about eating dinner at a local restaurant. Upon entering, you feel as if you are at someone's house for dinner. They are cozy and inviting, each one unique to the people who own and run them. They are the opposite of the washed out, cold and mediocre chain restaurants. All Outbacks are the same (no offense Outback, you are just an example). They all feel the same, they all have the same menu, and the decor feels like it was thought up at a meeting of businessmen (who probably have never been to Australia). When you venture into a local place you have never been to before, everything is unexpected and interesting. The colors of the walls, art work, tapestries, music etc. create a unique package reflecting the experience offered to you by the owners - you won't be able to go to the next town and see them same exact place. It is a personal reflection of the owners and what they are trying to offer their patrons.
Just to name a few awesome restaurants we have been to thus far without actually documenting them: Pok Pok, Potato Champion, Montage, Mississippi Pie. I am sure we will be back at those restaurants, so we will list them in detail later as we return to them.
We hope you enjoy our tasty adventures!
