Imran and I have been talking about going to a different brunch place every Sunday for a year, and after trying a new place this morning with our friends Nina and Mike, we decided this would be as a good a time as any to start.
We went to Zellas on SE Morrison and 13th, at 12:30 the place was packed, but empty by the time we left an hour later.
What we had/tried:
Gluten free buttermilk pancakes-they were good enough to satisfy my pancake craving, but I have had better.
Sweet potato pancakes-Imran ordered these, I tried them. They were delicious. They came with pecans on top.
Eggs-good
Bacon-perfectly done, to me anyway. I like my bacon crispy.
Portland potatoes-Nina ordered this, it was really tasty. I will order it next time. Fresh vegetables over potatoes with cheese on top, Nina ordered a fried egg to be put on top and had bacon and avocado added on as well, she was no novice.
They automatically give you two small scones or gluten free mini muffins, the muffins were tasty. Imran will have to speak for the scones (he said they were good).
The place was a bar in the early 1900s, and the bar is still there. It is pretty cool, the historian in me would like the place for that fact alone. I will take pictures next time, we decided this would be the first entry spur of the moment.
I'll throw a couple in of Rocco from this morning. He was out of control, as you can see.
